Passion Week Daily Lessons

Kyrieeleison! Monday: Jesus chased the money-changers out of the Temple and Cursed the fig tree.

Our Lord Jesus Christ taught in the temple and were questioned by the Pharisees

Wednesday

The Jews, Judas, and Satan, Our God and Lord, Christ betrayal, and the day of sweet aroma.

Today our Church teaches two most important thing. Christ’s humbleness and Holy communion.

Introduction

Rite of Passion week [Semmune Himmamat] From Monday to Wednesday

During this week, the Holy Church concentrates on one subject: The Lord Christ’s suffering. For this reason, the Psalm readings and the Canonical Hours which cover various subjects relating to the Lord Jesus Christ including His birth, His ministry, His Resurrection, Ascension and sitting on the Father’s right hand and His Second Coming in His Glory, are replaced by a special hymn chosen by the Church especially for the Semmune Himmamat. The church concentrate its ritual effort and also its dogmatic and spiritual effort during this week to make of it a spiritual source of blessing for the whole year.

This week is rich in Biblical reading, and the father’s preaching and their interpretation. Each prayer contains prophecies, psalms, gospel and interpretation. The Church is dressed in black as a sign of protesting against the people sin, which caused pain and shame to her kind and merciful Redeemer. We don’t mourn for the passion and death of the Saviour as they gave us salvation but we mourn for our sin that caused these passion.

Why there is no Liturgy from Monday to Wednesday?

Palm Sunday corresponds to the the SUnday, which was on the tenth day of the lunar month, during which, the Israelites were supposed to buy the good lamb for the feast, and the Lord ordered them saying, “And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening” [Exodus 12:6]. The Lamb was kept alive for three days, which refers to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then they kill Him on Thursday. Our Lord is the true sacrifice, the lamb of God, who was kept alive from Sunday, with His entry to Jerusalem, till Thursday, on which He offered Himself as a sacrifice without blood before they crucify him.

Rite and Prayer with Prostration from Monday to Wednesday passion week

The Prayer of absolution,  protection and blessing will be prayed followed by the Priest Ordering the congregation to do 41 Lord’s prayer with prostration.

O Thou that art far from anger, abundant in mercy and righteous indeed, accept our daily prayer and  our supplication, and accept our penitence, humility, and service before Thy holy and heavenly ark and before  Thy holy, heavenly, stainless and spotless altar.

Make us ready to hear the word of Thy holy Gospel and to keep Thy commandments, law, and testimony, and bless us that we may bear fruit, remaining  not one only, but increasing thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Remember, Lord, the sick among Thy people : visit them in Thy mercy and heal them in Thy compassion. Remember, Lord, our fathers and our brothers who have travelled, and who have sojourned to trade; bring them back to their dwelling place in safety and peace. Remember, Lord, the dew of the air and the fruits of the earth, bless them and keep them without loss. Remember, Lord, the descent of the rains, waters, and rivers, and bless them. Remember, Lord, the plants and the seeds and the fruit of the fields of every year, bless them and make them abundant.

Remember, Lord, the safety of Thine own holy Church and all  the cities and countries of our Orthodox Fathers, the Apostles. Remember, Lord, the safety of man and of beast, and of me, Thy sinful servant. Remember, Lord, our (Head of state: king, queen, president, governor) and keep (him / her / them) for many years and length of days, in good health and in peace. Remember, Lord, our ancestors, our brothers and our sisters who have fallen asleep and are gone to their rest in the Orthodox Faith. Remember, Lord, them that have presented unto Thee this offering and this incense, and those on whose behalf they make the offering, and those from whom they have brought it : grant them a good recompense in heaven, and  comfort them all in their distress. Remember, Lord, the captives of Thy people, and bring them again in peace to their dwelling places. Remember, Lord, the afflicted and distressed.

Remember, Lord, the Christian catechumens of Thy people, show them  Thy pity and have mercy upon them. Even confirm them in the right faith; banish from their hearts every remnant of idolatry.Confirm in their hearts Thy law, Thy commandments and Thy fear; Thy righteousness, and Thy holy ordinance: so that they may know the power of the word wherein they have been instructed. Also, in the appointed time make them all ready for new birth and for the remission of their sin and prepare them to be an ark for the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, Thy servants, the poor who are under oppression, have pity upon them and confirm them in the right faith, and make them a dwelling place  of the Holy Spirit through spiritual joy and the love of man, through Thine only begotten Son, our Lord , God, and Saviour Jesus Christ, through Whom to Thee with Him and with the Holy Spirit be glory and dominion, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Glory be to  Thee, Lord our God almighty, who has made us ready to hear the word of Thy holy Gospel and greet it and rejoice in it, again we ask and beseech that Thou should write the  word of Thy holy gospel in our hearts, and accept our prayers in this Thy temple, wherein our Lord Jesus Christ has entered, and send Thy mercy and Thy compassion upon us and upon Thy people, through Thine only begotten Son, for Thine is the glory and power, unto the ages  of ages. Amen.
