11th Hour On Holy Thursday:- Trials Began

During this hour the prophecy of King David condemning Christ with false testimony happened: “Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed”[Psalm 2].  Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. [Psalms 35:11].

“Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none…. last two false witnesses came forward and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’” …the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!”  Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses?

When the high priest tore his close and accused Our Lord with “blasphemy”, all the people answered and said, “he is deserving of death.” “Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”” [Mt 26:67]. He bore this with meekness and patience.

Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity; Yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. [Psalm 7:14]

A wicked servant strengthened his hand to strike the face of Him from Whose face the cherubim are hidden being covered with wings of fire. [[the Anaphora of St. John Chrysostom]

St. Luke also explained the mocking as, “The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” And they said many other insulting things to him” Lk 22:63]

Isaiah the prophet had prophesied what was to happen to Our Lord Jesus Christ in terms of insult saying “I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard, I did not hide my face, from mocking and spitting” [Is 50:6].
